So for the past few months I have been doing water aerobics in the wee hours of the morning three days a week. Last Friday as I hung up my swimsuit to dry, I noticed the fabric was getting a little thin. Upon further investigation I saw it was dangerously thin. Alarming to say the least.
When I was nine years old we went on a big family vacation through Canada. In Edmonton we went to a huge mall with a water park inside. While waiting in line with my mom and little brother, a man in a speedo passed by. One side of the back of his swimsuit was torn leaving his bottom exposed. And to make matters worse for the poor guy, all the water park employees were using their walkie-talkies to radio to one another to watch out for the guy. Just for the sake of seeing him, not to throw him a towel. I think this incident contributed to me letting people know if their fly is down, food in teeth, or skirt tucked into pantyhose. And I also never ever want my swimsuit to rip open ever, for any reason.
So, a swimsuit shopping I went. Now, this is never a particularly fun chore. The lighting in dressing rooms is not flattering, you wear underwear underneath, also not flattering. And, most suits are clearly not made for any sort of exercise. I would say they are mostly ornamental. So, I set out in search of something more sturdy. I went to Kohl's, Dillards, TJ Maxx, Macy's, JC Pennys, Target. Nothing. In fact almost everything they had were tankini's, which are okay, or one-pieces with a neckline that plunged down to the bellybutton-not okay, really, I've had three kids.
Finally I gave in and went to a Sporting Goods store. I tried on all manner of suits. I ended up with one identical in style to my old one-I guess some things are tried and true. Apparently I require a racer back style suit with very little excitement about it. And one that is fully lined-you know-just to have an extra layer between me and the rest of the world.

Wow!! Congrats on finding a suit!! I was about to suggest Lands End (online)!! Their customer service is so great!! You have to give lots of measurements which for me is never fun, but they always find exactly what I want!
When I was in school at BYU I took a diving class and it wasn't until I was walking by the mirrors in the locker room after having just taken my final that I realized my swimsuit was COMPLETELY see through from all of the chlorine! I was humiliated and then went out and bought a very tough durable speedo swimsuit that is reversable. I only like the fabric on the one side but the extra layer on the opposite side definitly keeps my mind at peace :) I'm glad you found a swim suit! :) Oh and it's been 4 years and it's held up increidbly well! :)
Swimsuit shopping is such a pain. I think it might even be worse than shopping for jeans! Congrats on finding a suit...that's not see-through or about to rip open. :)
As you well know, I know your pain!!!!!!!!!! I am always looking for a good suit. Have been a speedo wearer for many years, but now am wearing a nike, which is pretty much like the speedos i always buy. TJ Maxx is where i look first mainly because of price. 16.99 is much better than 68.00!!!! Love mom
Hey, if it works don't try and fix it. So what that the suit is the same as your old one. When I find a pair of jeans the miraculously fit I buy every color.

Harder than finding an appropriate swimsuit for me is finding one for a 14-year-old. She's not allowed to wear a tankini to girls' camp (fine with me anyway), and to find her a cheap suit (because she's going to outgrow it shortly -- she's not done) that is a modest one-piece was quite difficult. Ultimately Ross was the answer -- $19.99. Target was absolutely no help (although they did seem to have some cute, modest ones online). Glad you found success.
